The Two Districts of Niagara Falls

Many people do not know this, but there are actually two districts in Niagara Falls.

Locals (and familiars) may call it the "old" strip and the "new" strip and although these characteristics are somewhat true, it does not completely define the character of both areas.

Clifton Hill ("Old" Niagara Falls)
This has been the world famous area for many, many years and was the first entertainment area to be built, hence the descriptive word "old".

What To Expect
If I had to chose which district to bring your children, it would be Clifton Hill. This area offers a lot of family-friendly activities, such as Rock-N-Bowl at Strike Rock N'Bowl, Wax Museums, such as MovieLand Wax Museum of the Stars, and even the famous Niagara Sky Wheel. Also accessible through Casino Niagara is Fallsview Indoor Waterpark.

All of these attractions are within walking distance to one another and located on Clifton Hill. If you are interested, you can look into the Clifton Hill FunPass here, which will save you some money by bundling activities together.

One major thing to point out is that Niagara Falls is at the bottom of Clifton Hill. The hill is about a 5 minute walk (up or down) and therefore, walking to get a view of the falls is definitely do-able.

Niagara Falls Parkette. From bottom of Clifton Hill. The hotels you are seeing ahead are in the FALLSVIEW district. This walkway will bring you there.

As I said, this area is very family friendly, but you will also find adult-related activities to enjoy as well. If you are visiting in the summer, be sure to check out The Beer Garden, located on the Clifton Hill Strip for some fun day to night karaoke (and of course drinks). The best part about this place is that it actually has speakers that point out to the main strip, so everyone can hear you sing. It is quite entertaining to say the least.

Clifton Hill is also beside Casino Niagara, which was the first casino to be built in Niagara Falls.  This casino does offer live entertainment, but it is not as "Grand" as Fallsview Casino.

Along with the activities and entertainment, there are many places to eat on Clifton Hill, as well as small gift shops, a Tim Hortons, Dairy Queen, Burger King and Harveys.

No matter what you are hoping to get out of your vacation, you really will not have to leave Clifton Hill for any reason, as it really does have it all.

Fallsview Niagara ("New" Niagara Falls)
What to Expect
This district is a little south of Clifton Hill and is totally accessible by foot from Clifton Hill, however it is about a 10 minute walk from the bottom of Clifton Hill (there is a parkette walkway along the falls that somewhat connects both districts). Although this is totally walkable on a perfect weather day, extreme heat/cold in the summer or winter makes this walk impractical and although you might say, "we can do it, common", you might regret it on the walk back during the winter months, as the cold mist on your face from the falls can get quite uncomfortable.

This district is definitely for your more romantic vacations. I would NOT recommend bringing children to this side, as there are not many family activities available.

The Fallsview side boasts fine dining (think Brasa, Margaritaville, The Keg), fancy night clubs like Dragonfly as well as Fallsview casino, which offers concerts and other larger events.

So let me recap, although I would recommend either a family vacation or a romantic adult vacation to the Clifton Hill district, I really would not recommend a family vacation to the Fallsview District, it really is only suited to the over 19 crowd.
